The National Lotteries and Gaming Regulatory Board (NLGRB) has begun destroying over 1,000 illegal gaming and betting machines confiscated from unlicensed operators across the country.
The machines are being disposed of by NEC U Ltd, a licensed e-waste management company, in an environmentally responsible manner.
The move is part of NLGRB’s crackdown on illegal gaming operations, aimed at ensuring compliance with the Lotteries and Gaming Act, Cap. 334.
The board has warned that businesses operating without proper authorization risk having their equipment seized and destroyed, along with possible legal action.
Uganda’s gaming industry has grown significantly in recent years, with an increase in both physical and online platforms.
However, the rise in unlicensed operators has led to regulatory challenges, including fraud, underage gambling, and financial exploitation.
By enforcing strict licensing requirements, NLGRB seeks to create a transparent and safe gaming environment that contributes positively to the economy.
The board has urged all gaming and betting operators to ensure they are licensed and compliant, while also encouraging responsible gaming among players.
It advises gamblers to set limits, play for fun, and avoid excessive gambling to mitigate potential risks.
