A total of 117 candidates completed the Certified Public Accountants (CPA) course in the May 2026 examination diet, bringing the total number of CPA qualifiers in Uganda to 5,676, the Public Accountants Examinations Board (PAEB) has announced.

Releasing the results in Kampala, PAEB Vice President Alfred Beitwababo Kabuchu said 6,682 candidates sat the examinations out of the 7,364 who had registered across seven examination centres in Arua, Fort Portal, Gulu, Kampala, Mbale, Mbarara and Nkozi.

Women accounted for the majority of the new CPA finalists, with 61 candidates, representing 52.1 percent, successfully completing the professional course compared to 56 men.

The results also showed improved performance in the Certified Tax Advisor (CTA) programme, where the overall pass rate rose to 54.8 percent from 47.3 percent recorded in December 2025.

According to PAEB, female candidates outperformed their male counterparts in the CTA examinations, with officials attributing the improved results to increased candidate preparation and greater participation in student support programmes ahead of the May examinations.

“This was the first of the three examination diets scheduled for 2026, with the August and December examinations still ahead,” Kabuchu said.

Officials from the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Uganda (ICPAU) said the growing number of successful candidates reflects the increasing demand for skilled accounting and taxation professionals in the country.

ICPAU President David Timothy Ediomu urged the new graduates to pursue full membership of the institute and use their professional skills to promote accountability and sound financial management.

“Uganda’s future depends on the integrity and vigilance of professional accountants,” Ediomu said.

He challenged accountants to play a greater role in strengthening financial management systems, supporting domestic revenue mobilisation and contributing to the country’s economic growth.

Ediomu also encouraged candidates who did not pass the examinations to remain focused and continue pursuing the qualification, saying setbacks should serve as motivation rather than a reason to give up.

The ICPAU president further commended examiners, invigilators, the ICPAU Secretariat and other stakeholders for ensuring the successful administration of the May 2026 examination diet.

The CPA and CTA qualifications are among Uganda’s most recognised professional certifications in accounting, auditing and taxation, and are regarded as key credentials for careers in both the public and private sectors.
