The ruling NRM has unveiled its internal elections’ roadmap for lower party structures from the village to the district level.
According to NRM Electoral Commission Chairman, Dr. Tanga Odoi, no academic qualifications are required for candidates to participate in the elections.
The roadmap for the National Resistance Movement’s internal elections for lower party structures from village to district level was launched today, with several activities lined up, including:
- Printing and update of the voter register, November 29, 2023
- Candidates’ expression of interest, March 1, 2024
- Campaigns, March 8-10 2023
- Polling, March 11
- And ends on April 2 with election data collection
While speaking at the Party’s central executive committee, the Chairman of NRM’s Electoral Commission, Tanga Odoi, resolved to start the election process much earlier for efficiency.
"We have learnt from the past, we want to have this exercise early to minimize challenges."
The NRM says it expects to elect several leaders in these lower structures, with a digitised voter register put in place to eliminate possible ghost voters.
"We want to serve as an example for the rest of political parties, we don’t want to experience chaos like the one in FDC."
The ruling NRM this time expects to run a very strict election that will be characterized by a roll call and a thorough check of the voter register before a given member is allowed to line up behind their favourite candidate.
