UNEB withholds 2022 UCE results of 1,035 candidates

Examination body, UNEB has withheld results for 1035  candidates who sat for the 2021 Uganda Certificate of  Education exams.

A total of 1,035 results will be withheld in accordance with Section 5 (2) (b) of the UNEB Act No 1 of 2021. The number of results to be withheld has been reducing steadily at this level,” UNEB Executive Director, Dan Odongo said on Thursday.

He noted that candidates whose results were withheld will be notified through their portals.

The UNEB Executive Director said that the measures put in place to curb exam malpractice resulted in a welcome reduction in the cases.

“Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics have been most affected, with external assistance, collusion among candidates, impersonation and script substitution as the common cases.”

The number 1035 is 255 lower than the 1290 registered the previous year in 2021.

The UNEB chairperson, Prof Mary Okwakol attributed examination malpractices and the cancellation of results for candidates  to lack of proper briefing for candidates by the school heads.

“Some head teachers did not brief students and some students committed acts of irregularities attributed to inadequate briefing. Head teachers should start taking briefing seriously to avoid cancellation of students’ results,” Prof Okwakol said.
