Kampala Archbishop Dr. Cyprian Lwanga has asked the state to partner with the church to promote peace and development in the country.
Lwanga told a gathering attended by President Yoweri Museveni yesterday afternoon that peace building and promotion of human dignity should be core as government promotes social-economic transformation of the country.
While presenting his gift to the president, Lwanga said; “The elephant is a big one and here you (President Museveni) are the big one and your citizens are the small ones. All in all, we ask for a partnership between the church and the state. Once we work together we shall promote peace and development in the country”.

“When the two (church and the state) work hand in hand, government and the religious leaders will not fail to eliminate the bean ‘weevils’”, Museveni said.
Two meetings have so far been held between President Yoweri Museveni and the clergy since Lwanga went public on the infiltration of the church by spies as well as the arming of clerics.
Lwanga feels it is time for peace to prevail. He told the Wekembe conference attended by President Yoweri Museveni that all avenues must be explored for peaceful co-existence.
“The last finger is the smallest but strongest. It simply means that let us promote peace in our country,” he said.
Lwanga also attacked security operatives over their handling of civilians especially during arrests.
“We thank your security but it handles us poorly when we are coming to visit you, we are your voters and should not be treated like,” Lwanga said.
Museveni who donated sh500 million in a pledge called for stricter enforcement of laws against corruption. He urged the citizenry to be vigilant and root out the vice.
“The money is yours but you should not allow it to be misused. Go to your leaders and demand for accountability,” he said.
