Even when their activists extradited from the neighbouring, Kenya are now languishing in jail over allegations of terrorism. A capital that is  followed by their failed delegates conference that was earlier scheduled for august 2, 2024 to decide on their next course of action either to form another party or reconcile with the main branch.

The FDC brake way group sitting at Katonga insists they are still strong and focused on the cause of providing good leadership to Oust common rival Yoweri Kaguta Museveni.

The national chairman of the breakaway group explained that the delegates conference had been adjourned to august 19, 2024 due lack of funds.

The electoral commission is halfway in implementation of the 2026 electoral roadmap and serious election activities are expected to start next year 2025.

Wasswa Birigwa adds: “Yes, we are facing logistical challenges and the national council convened and decided to postpone the delegates conference. We are not working against any time line”

Both the mainstream FDC sitting at Najjanankumbi and break-away group sitting at Katonga have been holding parallel countrywide mobilisation activities ahead of 2026 elections with Najjanankumbi attracting bigger crowds than katonga.

The katonga breakaway however spokesperson Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda however claims they have more following.

“We have fully engaged in a countrywide tour to seek the views of our supporters . many of them turned up in big numbers contrary to those who think we have been abandoned” Ssemujju reacted.

But political scholar Dr. Patrick wakida is not surprised FDC breakaway group sitting at Katonga is hit by financial crisis and had to postpone its delegates conference.

Dr. wakida revealed that “ the shrinking political space cannot allow these parties to engage in fundraising activities and yet holding activities like delegates conference is very expensive”

“It involves transporting people , feeding them, accommodating them , these are huge expenditures for a few members of the party to foot” he explained.
