A 53-year-old man has died after he was allegedly stabbed during a dispute over smoking near a residence in Kabalagala, with police arresting a woman in connection with the incident.
The deceased, identified as Bob Kalyango, a cleaner at Kabalagala Parents School and resident of Kibuli in Makindye Division, was allegedly attacked by Farida Nakakande, 38, a resident of Bwire Zone, Kabalagala Parish.
According to Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Racheal Kawala, the incident happened at about 7:00am on Wednesday behind Namayanja’s Bar in Bwire Zone.
Kawala said preliminary investigations indicate that Kalyango got into a disagreement with Nakakande, which later turned physical.
“The deceased picked a quarrel with the suspect, leading to a physical altercation. The dispute reportedly arose after the deceased was accused of smoking near the suspect’s residence,” Kawala said.
She said that during the confrontation, the suspect allegedly went to her room, picked a knife and stabbed Kalyango in the right rib.
“During the confrontation, the suspect allegedly picked up a knife from her room and stabbed the deceased in the right rib. The victim sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead,” Kawala said.
Police responded to the scene, secured the area and recovered the suspected murder weapon, which was taken as an exhibit.
Kalyango’s body was conveyed to the KCCA Mortuary for a postmortem examination, while Nakakande remains in police custody at Kabalagala Police Station as investigations continue.
Police said the suspect will remain detained to assist with inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the death.
