Lawyers representing four National Unity Platform (NUP) members including Eddie Ssebuufu, alias Eddie Mutwe detained at Masaka Prison say they have completed all the requirements for their clients’ release on bail ahead of a hearing , tomorrow Thursday.

The detainees — Eddie Ssebuufu (Eddie Mutwe), Achilleo Kivumbi, Grace Wakabi, and Mugumya Gaddafi — face charges of inciting violence, assaulting journalists, and causing injuries during the burial of the late Pasikale Ssekasamba in Lwengo District.

During a press conference on Tuesday, Defense lawyer Herbert Zikusooka said that the team has fulfilled every bail condition and formally notified all relevant authorities.

“There is no lawful reason for the court to deny them bail on Thursday. All the necessary procedures have been followed,” Zikusooka said.

Busiro South MP Charles Matovu, who visited the detainees, expressed concern over their health and living conditions.

He revealed that Eddie Mutwe still relies on a walking stick and was moved to tears while recounting the events that led to his arrest.

Matovu accused the authorities of using politically motivated detentions to intimidate opposition supporters and called for the immediate release of all political prisoners.

NUP supporters, led by Wasswa Williams, a Bukakata Subcounty Chairperson aspirant, have urged the court to free the detainees, describing the charges as fabricated and aimed at silencing dissent.

The case will be heard in court on Thursday.
