Police have arrested two suspects in connection with an aggravated theft case in Mukono Municipality and recovered a pistol that was stolen from a government engineer.
The suspects were arrested following a robbery reported on July 1, 2026, in Upper Nabuti Cell, Central Division, Mukono Municipality, where unknown assailants allegedly gained entry into a residence after deceiving a housemaid.
Police spokesperson Kituuma Rusoke said the arrests had helped investigators make progress in the case, with key items recovered, including the vehicle and motorcycle allegedly used during the crime.
“Two suspects have been arrested. The motor vehicle used to transport the stolen property from the victim’s residence has been recovered, along with the motorcycle the suspects used to access the home,” Rusoke said.
He added that the stolen firearm had also been recovered.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the pistol belongs to an engineer attached to a government department.
Police said the suspects allegedly tricked the housemaid into believing they had been sent by the homeowner to collect a faulty television set for repair.
After gaining access to the house, the suspects reportedly stole three television sets, Shs10 million in cash, a CCTV digital video recorder (DVR), a mobile phone and a metallic safe containing the pistol before escaping in a white Toyota Noah.
Rusoke said the incident highlights the growing use of deception by criminals to gain access to private residences.
“Criminals are increasingly exploiting deception to gain entry into homes and commit theft. We encourage the public to verify such requests before granting access in order to prevent similar incidents,” he said.
He urged homeowners and domestic workers to remain cautious and confirm any instructions involving the removal of household property directly with the owners before allowing strangers into their homes.
Police said investigations into the aggravated theft case are continuing as they pursue more leads and possible accomplices.
