He called on security agencies to allow the Electoral Commission to operate independently and to refrain from interfering in the voting process.

Ssemogerere emphasized that fairness, transparency, and respect for human rights are essential for credible elections, noting that ongoing tensions between the government and opposition fuel public mistrust.

He added that it is regrettable that both the president and opposition leaders accuse each other of attempting to manipulate the vote, saying such allegations further undermine confidence in democratic processes.

The Archbishop appealed to Ugandans to reject violence and remain committed to peaceful participation. He urged leaders to act responsibly and prioritize national unity over political interests.

His remarks come as campaigns intensify ahead of the 2026 general elections, with civil society and religious leaders calling on all electoral stakeholders to ensure justice, transparency, and equal opportunity for every candidate.
