Reports of a man 'crucified' for supporting NRM should be taken with a pinch of salt- Bobi Wine

Kyadondo East Member of Parliament, Robert Kyagulanyi is also known as Bobi Wine has said the reports of a National Resistance Movement supporter who was crucified should be taken with a pinch of salt.

Police on Thursday said are investigating circumstances under which 21-year-old Baker Kasumba, an NRM supporter was attacked by two men who later drover 6-inch nails into his hands along the Northern bypass flyover in Kalerwe.

In a statement posted on his social media accounts, Bobi Wine said he condemns the unfortunate incident but said he was not sure it had happened.

“I must add that the most unfortunate thing that has happened to our country is that no one can tell what is true and what is not true. Majority of the citizens cannot even tell whether what comes out of the police force is true or not,” Bobi Wine said.

"Only a few days ago, they released a ridiculous video which they claimed depicted moments of our fallen brother Ziggy Wine at Mulago hospital! Many who watched it could not help but wonder how we ended up here.”

The legislator cum singer said at this time no one can trust the photos and statement released by police in regards the matter.

"Therefore, we cannot at this point confirm the account of this alleged nailing of Mr. Kasumba. We hope that this time round, the authorities can professionally investigate this issue, and if found true, hold those culpable to account.”

Bobi Wine, however, noted that if it is true, the barbaric act must be condemned in the strongest terms possible, adding that no one should ever resort to using violence to settle their scores, no matter the situation.

“We must not fall into the trap of resorting to violence, because as the history of our country has shown us, violence only leads to more violence and the cycle never ends. That is why we emphasize a non-violent struggle to rid our country of dictatorship through People Power,” Bobi Wine said.

I know that many of our comrades countywide have been arrested, beaten up and assaulted by the authorities for putting on the People Power berets in a very provocative manner- but we must always remember that the regime has deliberately tried everything to portray us as violent so as to respond to us with too much violence- let's win by rising above their shameless schemes.”

According to a reported narration from Kasumba, he claims that a few days earlier, a man had threatened him at his workplace to stop supporting the NRM and President Museveni and suspects the same man could have planned with others to harass him.

“We shall not accept this kind of political intimidation and whoever is using it should desist from it. We condemn the attack in the strongest term it deserves,” Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson, Patrick Onyango said in a statement on Thursday.

“He is currently on treatment in Mulago, but out of danger.”
