Uganda Cooperative College Tororo is set to host the 8th edition of the National Intercollegiate Games, with activities kicking off on April 8 and running through April 20, 2026.
The official opening ceremony will take place on April 12 at the college grounds, bringing together student-athletes from across the country for one of Uganda’s biggest tertiary sports events.
The games are expected to attract participants from more than 46 accredited public and private diploma-awarding institutions. Competitions will span a wide range of disciplines, including athletics, football, netball, basketball, volleyball, handball, and woodball, alongside mind games such as chess, omweso, scrabble, and drafts.
According to the college principal, Alex Oriokot Tukei, the event is aimed at promoting both academic and sporting excellence while nurturing talent and strengthening unity among students.
“As tertiary institutions, we are committed to promoting excellence in both sports and education. We are excited to host this national event and look forward to delivering a memorable experience that celebrates talent, culture, and community engagement,” he said.
To manage the competitions effectively, the college has partnered with nearby schools and sister institutions to host some events. King George Stadium has been designated as the main venue for football matches.
Beyond sports, the event will feature exhibitions showcasing student innovations, cultural performances, and live coverage, making it a comprehensive platform for talent and creativity.
Organized annually to promote sportsmanship and camaraderie among young people, the National Intercollegiate Games are expected to draw hundreds of participants and spectators, positioning Tororo as a vibrant hub of activity during the period.
The college has also invited the public to attend in large numbers to support the athletes and take advantage of the economic opportunities associated with the event.
