Speaker of Parliament Anita Among has confirmed discussions with Rotary International on the possible establishment of a maternal and child health endowment fund that could be associated with her name.
The development followed a meeting between the Speaker and a delegation that included District 9214 Governor Kyeyune Kawooya, Rotary International Director-Elect Emmanuel Katongole, and Kin Kariisa, President of the Rotary Club of Kigo Seven Lakes Golf.
According to Among, the talks also covered her formal engagement with Rotary and an invitation to the All Africa Zone Meeting.
“I had the honour of hosting a delegation from Rotary International… for briefings on formalising my membership, discussions on a proposed endowment fund in my name dedicated to maternal and child health, and an invitation to the All Africa Zone Meeting,” she said.
She added that she intends to deepen her involvement with the organisation and progress within its donor recognition structure.
“I have pledged to expedite my progression to Major Donor Level three and deepen my involvement in Rotary International activities,” she said.
The proposed endowment fund, if established, would focus on maternal and child health programmes, an area that remains a key priority within Uganda’s health sector due to persistent gaps in maternal care and child survival outcomes.
Kin Kariisa, who also serves as Group Chief Executive Officer of Next Media, welcomed the Speaker’s engagement with Rotary initiatives and praised her commitment to supporting humanitarian programmes.
“We are delighted to have you. Thank you for your generous support to the Rotary Foundation as you advance to Major Donor Level 3,” Kariisa said.
He added that maternal and child health remains central to Rotary’s humanitarian priorities, expressing optimism about future collaboration.
“Your commitment to maternal and child health is truly appreciated. We look forward to serving together,” he said.
Rotary leaders said the initiative aligns with the organisation’s broader service agenda, which prioritises health, education, and community development interventions.
If realised, the proposed endowment fund would add to ongoing efforts to improve maternal and child health outcomes across Uganda through sustained financing and targeted programmes.
