PRAU Celebrates Women in PR Practice

Women in Uganda’s Public Relations and other professional sectors gathered on Saturday, 7th March 2026, at Revive Wellness Spa in Kololo for the PRAU Women celebration, held a day before International Women’s Day.

The event, themed “The Full Woman: She’s Got It All,” brought together female professionals to reflect on their journeys, share experiences, and discuss how to balance demanding careers with personal lives.

Irene Nakasiita, President of the Public Relations Association of Uganda (PRAU), encouraged women to participate in what she described as a “powerful and refreshing celebration” of women shaping Uganda's PR industry.

“As women in communication, we hold immense influence in our workplaces, homes, and public life. When we support one another, we don’t just grow individually but elevate the entire profession,” Nakasiita said.

She urged women to rely on mentorship, shared learning, and communities for support as they navigate professional and personal responsibilities.

The event featured a panel moderated by Sumin Namaganda, Senior Manager, Corporate Affairs at Uganda Development Bank, on “Why Women Make Great Leaders: Charismatic Leadership for Effective Teams.”

Panelists discussed the pressures women face to excel in career, family, and community simultaneously, emphasizing the importance of supportive communities.

“When you lead with empathy and understanding, you create space for people to grow, thrive, and perform at their best,” Lumonya said.

Edna Torana, CEO of Scanad Uganda, and Elizabeth Namaganda, Head of Marketing & Communications at Pride Bank, highlighted how aligning with team members’ values and vision turns work into a meaningful journey rather than just a job.

Under the Beauty Class session, Cerinah Tugume, Founder of Serene Beauty, spoke on self-awareness and self-acceptance. “It is important not only to know yourself, but also to accept who you truly are. Being self-aware reveals areas to improve, but it is not an excuse to remain the same,” she explained.

Additional panels guided women on personal milestones, such as preparing for marriage, while interactive sessions included a Healthy Woman module on reproductive health, First Aid training, She Is Bold and Beautiful, Lion Queen meditation, and a makeup session called Beauty Treat. These were moderated by Lyn Tukei (PR Manager, Capital Markets Authority), Megan Katasi (Communications Consultant), and Sandra Akello (Managing Director, Sello Expressions).

Participants shared success stories and vulnerabilities, with young professionals discussing early career challenges and senior women reflecting on lessons learned.

For many, the PRAU Women’s Day event was more than a celebration—it was a reminder that success is not a solo journey.

Mentorship, peer support, and strong networks are crucial for women in PR to break barriers while maintaining a fulfilling balance between career and personal life.
