The NRM Central Executive Committee sitting at State House in Entebbe has endorsed Jacob Oboth Oboth and Thomas Tayebwa as the ruling party’s candidates for speaker and deputy speaker respectively.
The party’s top organ recommended to the parliamentary caucus Oboth’s name owing to his proven legal skills.
“He has demonstrated exceptional legal acumen of command of parliamentary law and his legal expertise puts him in position to interpret rules of parliament to ensure proceedings are done within the law,” the NRM Secretary General, Richard Todwong who read the solutions of the CEC meeting said on Sunday.
The party’s top organ also said they had endorsed Oboth Oboth due to his loyalty to the party and adherence to its programs as well as being uniting and uncontroversial figure.
In the same vein, the NRM CEC also endorsed Thomas Tayebwa for the deputy speaker position.
Tayebwa according to CEC, was endorsed in order to keep the precedent kept previously of a deputy speaker serving two terms.
According to Todwong, Tayebwa’s proven mobilisation skills and youthfulness make him the ideal candidate for the party for the position of deputy speaker.
