The National Resistance Movement (NRM) First National Vice Chairperson, Al-Hajji Moses Kigongo, has called on party members to remain united behind the official party flagbearer, President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, as Uganda heads toward the 2026 general elections.

Speaking at Kololo Independence Grounds during Museveni’s nomination rally on Tuesday, Kigongo cautioned against internal divisions caused by independent aspirants who, after losing in the party primaries, continue to challenge the NRM’s internal processes.

In his remarks, Kigongo also congratulated the Party Chairperson on successfully fulfilling all the necessary requirements and being duly nomination as the NRM flag bearer for the upcoming elections, he lauded Museveni steady and steadfast leadership over the years.

“I congratulate our Chairman, President Museveni, for having gone through the nomination. Today, we are opening up a new chapter. I want to thank all of you who have come to this function, and thank you for your support,” he said.

In a symbolic highlight of the event, Kigongo officially handed the NRM flag to President Museveni, affirming him as the party’s presidential flag bearer for the 2026 elections.

Thousands of supporters, clad in the party’s signature yellow, thronged Kololo Independence Grounds to celebrate Museveni’s nomination and reaffirm their backing for his candidacy.

Museveni, 81, who has led Uganda since 1986, is seeking another term in office as he extends his four-decade leadership.

The rally, marked by songs, chants, and displays of party loyalty, underlined the NRM’s message of cohesion and discipline ahead of what promises to be a highly contested electoral season.
