The Senior Clan Heads of Buganda have congratulated Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II upon reaching the 33rd anniversary of his coronation, describing the milestone as a significant moment in the history and traditions of the Buganda Kingdom.
The message was delivered at the clan headquarters in Mengo during a meeting held to brief clan members on final preparations for the groundbreaking ceremony for new buildings to be constructed at their headquarters.
The Kabaka will mark 33 years on the throne this Friday, with the main thanksgiving service scheduled to take place at Watoto Church, Bweyogerere.
Led by Omutaka Kyaddondo Kasirye Mbuga Eramula, head of the Nvuma Clan, the clan leaders called upon their descendants and all Buganda subjects to turn up in large numbers to join prayers for the Kabaka.
"Every year when we commemorate the Kabaka's coronation anniversary, we do so with great pride because of the important role and traditional responsibilities entrusted to the clan heads during the coronation ceremonies, in accordance with the ancient covenant dating back to Kintu," said Omutaka Kyaddondo Kasirye Mbuga Eramula.
He added that the clan leaders remain committed to preserving Buganda's cultural heritage and customs while supporting the Kingdom's activities.
On development projects, Kasirye announced that all preparations had been completed for the groundbreaking ceremony of a new building to be constructed on land allocated to the clan leadership by President Museveni.
"Everything is now in place, and construction of the new building will commence shortly," he said.
The clan leaders also launched the King David Foundation, an initiative aimed at investing in and economically empowering their descendants through programmes designed to combat poverty.
"The King David Foundation is intended to improve the livelihoods of our descendants by creating opportunities that will help eradicate poverty," Kasirye said.
Additionally, the clan leaders said the Busolya Education Fund continues to support vulnerable learners, noting that more than 700 children have so far benefited from the programme.
"Through the Busolya Education Fund, we are committed to supporting children from disadvantaged families so they can access education and realise their potential," Kasirye added.
