Police in Kabalagala Division have recovered 11 suspected stolen mobile phones and arrested one suspect following an intelligence-led operation conducted in Kansanga Parish, Makindye Division, Kampala.
According to Kampala Metropolitan Police Deputy Spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire, the operation was carried out on the night of July 23, 2026, after intelligence indicated that individuals dealing in suspected stolen mobile phones were operating between Kampala City Centre and Kansanga.
During the operation, officers recovered 11 mobile phones wrapped in foil paper, an apparent attempt to block network signals and frustrate tracking efforts.
The recovered devices include eight iPhones, two Samsung phones and one Itel phone.
One suspect, identified as Mariam Nakitende, was arrested and charged with possession of suspected stolen property. Another suspect fled the scene and is currently being pursued by police.
“Members of the public who believe they may have lost or had their phones stolen are encouraged to report to Kabalagala Police Division with sufficient proof of ownership for verification and possible recovery,” Owoyesigyire said.
Police said investigations are underway to establish the origin of the recovered phones and identify their rightful owners.
Owoyesigyire said the force will continue conducting intelligence-led operations to dismantle criminal networks involved in the theft and illegal trade of mobile phones.
He added that police are profiling and tracking habitual offenders, increasing deployments in crime hotspots including Arena, Muyenga and Tank Hill Road, strengthening foot patrols, and intensifying community policing through barazas and public sensitisation.
Investigations remain ongoing.
