The National Resistance Movement (NRM) Deputy Secretary General, Rose Namayanja Nsereko, has cautioned party officials against arbitrarily replacing officially endorsed NRM flag bearers, describing the practice as unfair and contrary to the party's established electoral procedures.
Namayanja issued the warning while meeting NRM leaders from the Greater Masaka sub-region during her mobilisation tour ahead of the ongoing Local Council One (LC1) Chairperson and Women's Council elections.
Her remarks followed complaints from party leaders, particularly in Sembabule District, who alleged that some candidates who had been officially issued the NRM party flag were later stripped of it and replaced by other individuals.
"Replacing duly endorsed NRM flag bearers without following the party's established procedures is wrong because even the party chairperson has no mandate to do so. Every party member deserves a fair process, and those responsible for such actions should stop," Namayanja said.
She assured party members that the leadership would investigate the complaints and ensure that the party's electoral processes remain transparent, credible and in line with the NRM constitution.
Namayanja also urged party leaders to remain united and avoid internal disputes that could undermine the party's performance in the grassroots elections.
"Our strength lies in unity. We should not fight one another because that only benefits our political opponents. Let us resolve our disagreements through the party structures," she added.
The Deputy Secretary General was in Masaka as part of the NRM's nationwide mobilisation campaign aimed at consolidating support ahead of the village-level elections for LC1 chairpersons and Women's Council committees.
During the meeting, she encouraged party supporters to rally behind officially endorsed NRM candidates in areas where elections remain competitive, expressing confidence that the ruling party would register strong victories across the Greater Masaka sub-region.
The ongoing LC1 and Women's Council elections form part of the NRM's broader grassroots mobilisation strategy as the party strengthens its structures ahead of upcoming electoral activities.
