Political leaders from the Greater Masaka region have stepped up support for Buddu County after the team's 2-1 victory over Busujju in the Masaza Cup, urging fans and well-wishers to continue backing the side as it pursues championship glory.
The leaders made the appeal while presenting financial contributions to boost the team's preparations ahead of its upcoming fixtures.
Nyendo–Mukungwe MP Javira Ssebina Lubowa donated Shs4 million, while Kalungu East MP Yusuf Nkeretanyi contributed Shs5 million towards the team's campaign.
The leaders described Buddu as a unifying symbol for the people of Greater Masaka, saying success in the prestigious tournament would require collective support from political leaders, supporters and the business community.
"Buddu belongs to all of us. We call upon everyone who has Buddu at heart to continue supporting the team financially, morally and by turning up in large numbers during matches. Together we can achieve our goal," the leaders said.
They said the victory over Busujju had demonstrated the team's determination and potential to challenge for the title, adding that continued support would further motivate the players.
Buddu team manager Jude Muleke welcomed the contributions, saying the financial support had come at a crucial stage of the competition.
"We are grateful to our leaders for standing with the team. Their support motivates the players and the technical team to work even harder. We also thank all Buddu supporters who continue to sacrifice their time and resources for the success of this team," Muleke said.
He appealed to more leaders, business people and supporters to contribute towards the team's campaign, noting that adequate funding was essential for training, transport and players' welfare.
"This victory is only the beginning. We ask every Munna Buddu to remain united behind the team because every contribution, no matter how small, brings us closer to our dream of lifting the Masaza Cup trophy," he said.
Buddu's victory over Busujju has boosted confidence among supporters, with many expressing optimism that the county is well placed to mount a strong challenge for this year's Masaza Cup crown.
