ADJUMANI — Preparations for the burial of former Second Deputy Prime Minister and Adjumani West County Member of Parliament Gen (Rtd) Moses Ali have begun at Taqwa Mosque Cemetery in Abiricaku Village, Adjumani Town Council.
Workers on Monday morning started digging the grave where the veteran military and political leader will be laid to rest in accordance with Islamic traditions.
Alhajji Imam Yusuf Baraka, the Imam of Taqwa Mosque, said the grave was being prepared early to ensure that all arrangements are completed before the burial ceremony.
“We have started preparing the grave this morning so that it is ready for the burial of the General,” Imam Baraka said.
President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni announced the death of Gen. Moses Ali, saying the former minister passed away at Nakasero Hospital on Saturday afternoon.
In his condolence message, President Museveni described Gen. Moses Ali as a dedicated patriot who served Uganda with distinction in both military and political leadership.
The President praised his contribution to national development, particularly his role in advancing the West Nile sub-region, and highlighted his success as a commercial farmer.
“We shall miss greatly his contribution,” President Museveni said, while praying for eternal peace for the fallen statesman.
President Museveni granted Gen. Moses Ali an official burial in recognition of his more than five decades of public service. The National Organising Committee has since started working with the family to organise a befitting state send-off.
Gen. Moses Ali served in several senior government positions, including Second Deputy Prime Minister and Deputy Leader of Government Business in Parliament, while representing Adjumani West County for several years.
Tributes have continued to come from government officials, political leaders, cultural institutions and members of the public, who have described him as a humble, dedicated and visionary leader.
Hundreds of mourners are expected to gather in Adjumani to pay their final respects to the former military commander and long-serving public servant.
