The contribution comes at a critical moment as Buweekula intensifies preparations for its Masaza Cup fixture against Buuli scheduled for Sunday, July 19, 2026, in Nakasongola District.
Team officials said the financial support had provided a timely boost, easing some of the logistical challenges that had threatened the team’s travel and match preparations.
The contribution was handed over to Buweekula leadership during a ceremony attended by team officials, supporters, and local leaders, who praised the legislator for promoting sports development and youth empowerment.
Team officials and fans described the support as a morale booster that has renewed confidence among players and the technical team ahead of the crucial encounter.
Speaking during the handover ceremony, Nabawanuka said she was pleased to honour the commitment she had earlier made to the team.
“Today, I am honoured to fulfil the pledge of Shs 5 million that I made to Buweekula FC. I believe in keeping my promises, and supporting our young people through sports is one of the ways we can contribute to the development of our communities,” she said.
The MP commended the leadership of Buweekula for their dedication and sacrifice in managing the team and promoting football in the area.
“I would like to appreciate the leadership of Buweekula for the commitment and sacrifice they continue to make in ensuring that the team remains competitive. Their efforts are helping to nurture talent and unite our people through sports,” Nabawanuka said.
She also urged players to remain disciplined and focused as they pursue their football careers.
“To the players and young talents, I encourage you to stay committed, disciplined, and determined. Football can open many opportunities for you, and your success can inspire other young people to pursue their dreams. Continue working hard and represent Buweekula with pride,” she added.
The Kabaka’s Representative for Buweekula, Andrew Mukasa Ssempijja, applauded Nabawanuka for honouring her pledge, saying the contribution would support the team’s activities and preparations.
“We are grateful to Hon. Sumayah Nabawanuka for standing with Buweekula. Her contribution will go a long way in supporting the team’s activities and preparations. This is a clear demonstration of her love for the people and for sports development,” Ssempijja said.
He called upon other leaders, business people, and well-wishers to support the team as it seeks success in the tournament.
“Buweekula belongs to all of us. I would like to invite other well-wishers, business people, leaders, and friends of Buweekula to come on board and support the team. Together, we can build a stronger and more successful Buweekula,” he said.
Fans who attended the event also thanked the MP for fulfilling her promise and appealed to other leaders from Buweekula and the wider Mubende area to support the team.
