National Unity Platform (NUP) President Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu has announced that the party’s Deputy President for Eastern Uganda, John Baptist Nambeshe, has taken over as acting president of the party.
The announcement, made through Kyagulanyi’s official social media platforms, ends the four-month acting tenure of Dr Lina Zedriga Waru, the party’s Deputy President for Northern Uganda, who had been steering NUP’s affairs in an acting capacity.
Kyagulanyi commended Dr Zedriga for her leadership during the period, saying she provided stability and kept the party focused.
“For four months, Dr Lina Zedriga Waru, Deputy President Northern Region, has been acting President of our Party. During this period, she has steered the party well and kept the revolution alive. We’re all very grateful for her dedication and service,” Kyagulanyi wrote.
He said Dr Zedriga’s tenure had come to an end and announced Nambeshe as her successor.
“As her tenure comes to an end, I am pleased to announce that John Baptist Nambeshe, Deputy President Eastern Region, will be taking over as acting President of the National Unity Platform. I wish him well and request all leaders and comrades to accord him the necessary support,” Kyagulanyi said.
The NUP president did not specify how long Nambeshe will serve in the acting position.
The party has previously rotated the acting presidency among its regional deputy presidents as part of its internal leadership arrangements.
Nambeshe, the Member of Parliament for Manjiya County in Bududa District, is one of NUP’s senior leaders and has been a prominent figure in the party since joining the opposition movement.
