According to the Mufti, Gen Ali remained committed to strengthening Muslim institutions and advancing the welfare of the Muslim community throughout his public life.

The Mufti further credited the late General with using his influence in government to support major projects that continue to benefit Muslims and the wider Ugandan population, including the expansion of the Islamic University in Uganda (IUIU) and the establishment of Kibuli Muslim Hospital.

“Gen. Moses Ali will be remembered not only as a national leader but also as a committed son of the Muslim community whose dedication to the development of Islamic institutions helped shape the future of generations of Ugandans,” the Mufti said.

Mufti Mubaje called upon Ugandans to honour Gen. Ali’s legacy by embracing unity, peaceful coexistence and selfless service to the nation, values he said defined the late General’s life.

Quoting the Holy Qur’an, the Mufti reminded the faithful that every soul shall taste death and prayed that Allah (SWT) forgives Gen Ali’s shortcomings, rewards him for his service to the nation and humanity, and grants him the highest place in Jannatul Firdaus.

“Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji’un. Indeed, to Allah we belong and to Him we shall return,” he said.

The Mufti also prayed for strength, patience and courage for the bereaved family as they come to terms with the loss.

As part of the final farewell arrangements, Mufti Mubaje directed the UMSC Secretary for Religious Affairs to organise Swalatul-Janazah (funeral prayers) at the Gaddafi National Mosque on Saturday ahead of Gen. Moses Ali’s burial scheduled for Sunday, July 19, 2026.

He called upon Muslims across the country to attend the prayers in large numbers and join in paying their final respects to the veteran statesman.
