The Ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic Development has paid tribute to its outgoing ministers, praising their leadership, professionalism and commitment to Uganda’s economic transformation while pledging full support to the newly appointed political leadership.

Speaking during a farewell luncheon held at Serena Hotel Kampala on July 17, 2026, the Permanent Secretary and Secretary to the Treasury, Ramathan Ggoobi, commended the outgoing ministers for their contribution to strengthening Uganda’s economy and promoting a culture of teamwork within the ministry.

Ggoobi described former Minister of Finance Matia Kasaija as a leader whose calm approach and sense of humour helped unite the ministry, even during challenging discussions and decision-making processes.

He also praised former State Minister for Finance Henry Musasizi for his energy, preparedness and commitment to constructive engagement, saying he consistently challenged ideas, encouraged robust debate and emphasised the importance of being fully prepared for official engagements.

The Permanent Secretary further recognised former State Minister for Microfinance Haruna Kasolo Kyeyune, describing him as “the people’s minister” whose frequent interactions with farmers, traders, boda boda riders and entrepreneurs helped keep government policies connected to the experiences of ordinary Ugandans.

Ggoobi noted that the outgoing ministers earned respect through accessible leadership and their confidence in the ministry’s technical team.

Turning to the incoming ministers, Ggoobi welcomed them to what he described as one of Uganda’s strongest public institutions, highlighting the ministry’s reputation for professionalism, technical competence and sound economic management.

He assured the new political leadership of the ministry’s continued support and commitment to providing professional guidance.

“We shall offer honest, professional advice, implement your decisions diligently, and work tirelessly to help you succeed. Because when ministers succeed, government succeeds. And when government succeeds, Uganda succeeds,” Ggoobi said.

He thanked the outgoing ministers for their service, noting that although public offices are temporary, the impact of principled leadership continues to endure.

Ggoobi expressed confidence that the ministry’s technical staff would continue working closely with the new ministers to safeguard Uganda’s economic future and advance national development priorities.
