An election petition challenging the outcome of the Kigulu South parliamentary election in Iganga has been withdrawn after the parties reached a mediation settlement.
In Election Petition No. 05 of 2026 filed before the High Court of Uganda at Iganga, petitioner Badogi Ismail Waguma had challenged the election outcome, suing Kungu Samuel Bamuteeze and the Electoral Commission as the first and second respondents respectively.
However, the parties agreed to resolve the matter through mediation, ending the dispute before it proceeded to a full hearing.
The settlement was reached under Part II A, 27B of the Parliamentary Elections (Election Petitions) (Amendment) Rules, 2006.
“By consent and agreement of all parties, it is hereby agreed that this matter be and is hereby settled on the following terms: Election Petition No. 05 of 2026 be and is hereby wholly withdrawn as against the respondents. Each party shall bear its own costs of the petition,” the agreement reads.
The settlement agreement was signed on July 13, 2026, by Waguma, Bamuteeze and representatives of the Electoral Commission.
The parties were represented by Pande Law Advocates for the petitioner, K&K Advocates for Bamuteeze, and Madaba Advocates for the Electoral Commission.
The agreement was later endorsed by the High Court judge, who formally closed the case.
The withdrawal brings to an end one of the election disputes arising from the 2026 parliamentary polls in Iganga, with all parties agreeing to cover their own legal expenses.
