Police Arrest Suspect Linked to Various Robberies in Kiwatule

Police at Kira Road have arrested a suspected serial robber accused of targeting members of the public during early morning hours in Kiwatule, Kampala.

The suspect, identified as Joel Nkwasibwe , was arrested on Wednesday, July 8, 2026, during an intelligence-led operation conducted in Balintuma Zone, Kiwatule.

Police said the operation was carried out following intelligence reports on individuals allegedly involved in a series of attacks and robberies targeting residents in the area.

According to Police Spokesperson for Kampala Metropolitan Police, Racheal Kawala, the suspect had been on the police watch list and was apprehended during efforts to disrupt criminal activities in the area.

"The suspect was arrested during an intelligence-led operation targeting criminals who have been attacking and robbing members of the public, especially during the early morning hours. He is believed to be linked to a number of robbery incidents," Kawala said.

Preliminary investigations indicate that on July 6, 2026, the suspect allegedly attacked a boda boda rider and hit him with a blunt object believed to be a paver before taking away his personal belongings.

The victim sustained serious injuries and was rushed to Mulago National Referral Hospital for medical attention.

Kawala said the suspect remains in police custody as investigations continue and will be presented before court once inquiries are complete.

"We are continuing with investigations to establish the full extent of his involvement in criminal activities. Members of the public who may have information related to the suspect are encouraged to come forward," she said.

She  urged the public to remain vigilant and share timely information with security agencies to support efforts aimed at preventing crime and improving safety.
