Former Kampala Central Member of Parliament candidate Abraham Luzzi, popularly known as "Mr Economy," has been appointed Honorary Ambassador of Nkumba University, a role that will see the businessman, industrialist and distinguished alumnus spearhead alumni and stakeholder mobilization while strengthening the institution's brand visibility and strategic positioning.

The appointment was announced by the university leadership as part of a broader effort to deepen engagement with distinguished alumni whose professional achievements continue to inspire current and prospective students.

Speaking during the announcement, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Jude Lubega, said Luzzi's outstanding contribution to Uganda's industrial and agricultural sectors, coupled with his strong attachment to his alma mater, made him the ideal choice for the honorary role.

"Abraham stood out as one of our alumni making remarkable strides in Uganda's industrial sector. We also wanted someone who would serve as an inspiration to our current and prospective students," he said.

"He was our student, and it is time for us to harness the experience, knowledge and networks he has built after university. We are confident that he will serve as a worthy example and make a meaningful contribution to the Nkumba University community."

Prof. Lubega noted that the appointment aligns with the university's commitment to strengthening partnerships with its alumni while leveraging their expertise, experience and networks to advance institutional growth and mentorship.

In his acceptance remarks, Luzzi described the appointment as a homecoming, saying Nkumba University played a pivotal role in shaping his entrepreneurial journey

"This is home. I have been here before and even served as Chairperson Baganda Nkooba za Mbogo. I am delighted to return and become part of the institution that shaped my business acumen," he said.

Luzzi pledged to use the ambassadorial role to build stronger links between academia and industry, revealing plans to initiate discussions aimed at forging a partnership between Ssebo Foods and Nkumba University.

"This will not stop at the ambassadorial role. I am considering pursuing an affiliation between Ssebo Foods and Nkumba University so that together we can train the next generation of agricultural professionals and create more opportunities for practical learning," he added.

University officials said the partnership discussions are expected to focus on agricultural training, research collaboration, internships and industry exposure for students pursuing agriculture and related disciplines.

Luzzi is an Ugandan entrepreneur and industrialist and the Founder and Director of Ssebo Food Industries Uganda Ltd, the company behind Ssebo Pure Maize Flour, a brand now recognised in many Ugandan households.

He later earned a Bachelor's Degree in Procurement and Logistics Management from Nkumba University and has built a reputation in agribusiness, manufacturing and value addition, championing initiatives that promote food security, youth employment and agricultural commercialization.

As Nkumba University's Honorary Ambassador, Luzzi is expected to leverage his entrepreneurial experience, industry knowledge and international networks to strengthen alumni engagement, mobilize stakeholders, enhance the university's visibility and inspire the next generation of leaders, innovators and entrepreneurs.
