The Resident District Commissioner (RDC) for Kasangati, Hajji Juma Kigongo, has urged newly elected Parish Development Model (PDM) parish leaders to serve with integrity, fairness and transparency to ensure the government programme achieves its intended objectives.

Kigongo made the remarks after residents of Bulamu, Gayaza and Kabubu parishes gathered at Bulamu Parish in Kasangati, Wakiso District, to elect new PDM leadership committees.

The election process was supervised by Deputy RDC James Kalisima alongside PDM officials, who first sensitised residents on the objectives of the Parish Development Model and the responsibilities of the leaders they were about to elect.

All aspiring candidates were given an opportunity to introduce themselves, outline their plans and seek support from voters before polling commenced.

At the end of the exercise, Ruth Niwagaba was elected chairperson of the Bulamu Parish PDM Committee.

Speaking after her victory, Niwagaba thanked residents for the confidence they had placed in her and pledged to serve all people equally.

"I thank the people of Bulamu for trusting me with this responsibility. I promise to serve everyone without discrimination and work hard to ensure the Parish Development Model benefits all eligible residents," she said.

Deputy RDC James Kalisima said the elections were conducted in line with the President's directive to establish new PDM committees to effectively coordinate and oversee implementation of the programme at the parish level.

"The President directed that new PDM committees be constituted to strengthen the implementation of the programme. These leaders have an important responsibility of ensuring the initiative succeeds," Kalisima said.

Kigongo acknowledged that organising the elections had not been easy, noting that some individuals attempted to politicise the exercise, leading to the postponement of elections in two parishes.

"Preparing for these elections was challenging because some people tried to introduce politics into a government development programme. This forced us to postpone elections in two parishes," he said.

Despite the setbacks, Kigongo said elections were successfully completed in the remaining areas and confirmed that all eight parishes under Kasangati had now elected their PDM committees.

He challenged the newly elected leaders to remain accountable to the communities that entrusted them with leadership.

"The people have placed their confidence in you. Serve them honestly, fairly and transparently. Work with integrity and ensure the Parish Development Model delivers the intended benefits to every deserving household," Kigongo urged.
