Postmortem Reveals Murder in Death of 22-Year-Old Kasese Man

A case initially reported as a sudden death in Kasese District has taken a new turn after a postmortem examination confirmed that 22-year-old Jackson Tugume was murdered by strangulation.

Tugume, a casual worker and resident of Kamuruli Village in Kagando Parish, Kisinga Sub-county, was found dead under unclear circumstances after reportedly going missing from his brother’s home.

Police in Bwera Division had earlier opened investigations following the discovery of the body, which had initially been treated as a sudden death.

However, according to a fresh update from Rwenzori East Regional Police spokesperson ASP Elly Maate, forensic findings have now established that the young man died as a result of criminal acts.

“Subsequent to the earlier statement given in relation to the sudden death of a 22-year-old Jackson Tugume, after the postmortem examination made, it has turned out to be murder by strangulation,” ASP Maate said.

The revelation has prompted police to intensify investigations aimed at identifying the motive and those responsible for the killing.

ASP Maate said detectives are pursuing several leads and urged members of the public to assist with any information that could help in the arrest of suspects.

“Inquiries are underway to establish the motive and those involved so that they are brought to book and answer charges accordingly. Whoever has information that can lead to those involved should volunteer it so that they are apprehended for prosecution,” he added.

The development has shocked residents of Kisinga Sub-county, where Tugume was known as a casual labourer. Community members have called for swift investigations and justice for the deceased.

Police have assured the public that efforts are underway to uncover the circumstances surrounding the murder and bring the perpetrators to justice.

The case remains under active investigation.
