The Supreme Mufti of Uganda, Sheikh Muhammad Shaban Galabuzi, has called on Ugandans to embrace unity, solidarity and mutual support as essential pillars for national development following a donation of 100 bags of cement by the United Boda-Boda Union to the Muslim community.
Speaking during a ceremony to receive the donation, Sheikh Galabuzi commended the boda boda riders for their generosity and commitment to supporting community initiatives, describing the gesture as an example of how ordinary citizens can contribute to social progress and national cohesion.
“What we are witnessing today is a clear demonstration that unity is not just a slogan but a practical commitment to supporting one another. This generous contribution from our boda boda brothers shows that when people come together with a common purpose, they can make a positive impact on society,” Sheikh Galabuzi said.
The Supreme Mufti said Uganda's future depends on citizens working together regardless of their backgrounds and urged communities to reject divisions that hinder development.
“Our nation needs more acts of kindness, cooperation and understanding. We must reject divisions and instead build bridges of friendship and solidarity. When we are united, no challenge is too great for us to overcome,” he added.
The 100 bags of cement were donated by the United Boda-Boda Union to support ongoing development projects within the Muslim community.
The contribution forms part of the union's broader efforts to strengthen partnerships with religious institutions and support community development initiatives.
Speaking at the event, United Boda-Boda Union chairperson Frank Mawejje said the donation reflects the transport sector's commitment to giving back to society and supporting programmes that promote peace, development and social welfare.
“As boda boda riders, we are part of the communities we serve every day. We believe that supporting religious institutions and community programmes is one way of contributing to the welfare of our people and strengthening national unity,” Mawejje said.
He called on other organisations and community groups to embrace a culture of generosity and collective responsibility, noting that development requires the participation of all citizens.
“Development is not the responsibility of government alone. Every citizen has a role to play. When we support one another and work together, we can transform our communities and create a better future for all Ugandans,” he added.
Sheikh Galabuzi praised the boda boda riders for looking beyond their daily economic activities and embracing the spirit of service to humanity. He encouraged businesses, community groups and individuals to support charitable initiatives aimed at improving the lives of vulnerable people and strengthening social cohesion.
Religious leaders, boda boda representatives and community members who attended the event welcomed the initiative, saying it highlights the importance of partnerships between community organisations and faith-based institutions in advancing development and national unity.
