The Uganda People's Defence Forces (UPDF) has stepped up efforts to complete key housing and infrastructure projects aimed at improving the welfare of soldiers, with Deputy Commander Land Force, Maj Gen Francis Takirwa Ssemwanga, this week inspecting ongoing works in Masindi and Kakiri barracks.
During his visit to the Artillery Division Headquarters in Masindi, Maj Gen Ssemwanga assessed the progress of three residential blocks comprising 18 housing units, which are now 95 percent complete. He also inspected four additional residential blocks currently undergoing renovation, with works standing at approximately 40 percent completion.
The Deputy Land Force Commander commended the Artillery Division leadership and construction teams for maintaining momentum on the projects.
He specifically praised Artillery Division Commander Maj Gen Daniel Kakono and the construction team led by Lt Yasin Sempuma for the quality and pace of the works.
“Regular monitoring ensures that projects meet the required standards, remain within budget, and are completed on schedule,” Maj Gen Ssemwanga said.
In Kakiri, at the 1 Infantry Division Headquarters, Maj Gen Ssemwanga inspected a newly constructed quarter guard and staff accommodation facilities designed to improve living conditions for personnel and enhance service delivery.
He emphasized the importance of accountability in the management of public resources, noting that Chief of Defence Forces Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba has consistently stressed transparency and value for money in all UPDF development projects.
“Improved infrastructure directly contributes to the morale, welfare and operational readiness of our personnel,” he added.
The inspection tours were attended by several senior officers, including 1 Infantry Division Deputy Commander Col Michael Walaka Hyeroba, as well as engineering, logistics and finance officials from the respective divisions.
The ongoing projects form part of the UPDF's broader infrastructure modernisation programme aimed at improving accommodation, working conditions and overall welfare for military personnel across the country.
