Kyaliwajjala: Police Nab Notorious Robbery Gang Member After Paver Attack

Police in Kira Division have arrested a suspected repeat offender accused of terrorising residents through violent robberies in Kyaliwajjala and neighbouring communities.

James Lumu, described by police as a notorious criminal suspect, was picked up during an operation in Kyaliwajjala Kapeera after investigators linked him to a robbery where a resident was allegedly attacked with a paver and robbed of his mobile phone.

The incident happened on June 16, 2026, at around 8:00pm in Nabwojjo, Kyaliwajjala B Zone, when Tenywa Daniel, 23, was attacked while moving in the area.

Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson, Luke Owoyesigyire  said the victim sustained an attack with a blunt object before losing his phone to the assailants.

"Following intelligence gathered during investigations, detectives traced the suspect and arrested him on June 18, 2026," Owoyesigyire said.

According to police, Lumu is suspected to have participated in multiple robbery incidents reported in Kyaliwajjala and nearby areas, although investigations are still ongoing to establish the full extent of his alleged involvement.

 Owoyesigyire said the suspect remains in custody as police continue collecting evidence.

“Inquiries into the matter are ongoing,” Owoyesigyire said.

Police are also investigating whether other individuals are connected to the reported attacks and have called on members of the public who may have information about similar incidents to assist investigators.

The arrest comes amid renewed security operations aimed at cracking down on violent crimes in Kira Division.
