The Bishop Emeritus of West Lango Diocese has challenged health workers at Lira Regional Referral Hospital to strengthen teamwork and pursue excellence in service delivery as the facility seeks to consolidate gains in healthcare provision and institutional growth.

The Bishop Emeritus of West Lango Diocese, Rt Rev. Alfred Acur Okodi, has urged health workers and administrators at Lira Regional Referral Hospital to embrace teamwork and strive for excellence in healthcare delivery.

Bishop Okodi made the call while presiding over the hospital’s inaugural Prayer Breakfast, held at the hospital parking grounds.

He commended the hospital’s management and staff for their commitment to improving healthcare services but challenged them to strengthen collaboration in order to address inefficiencies and enhance patient care.

Bishop Okodi, who also serves as the Anglican Community Chaplain, said healthcare professionals have a divine responsibility to restore health and save lives.

“I urge all of you to use your God-given talents to improve patient outcomes and the quality of healthcare,” he said.

Lango Religious Leaders Forum General Secretary Rev. Thomas Obong echoed the call for teamwork, saying meaningful achievements can only be realized through collective effort.

“Lira Regional Referral Hospital is steadily positioning itself among Uganda’s leading healthcare institutions. I urge staff to remain committed to that vision in line with Ministry of Health policies,” Obong said.

Lira Regional Referral Hospital Director Dr Andrew Odur highlighted the facility’s growing service capacity, revealing that the hospital conducts more than 300,000 laboratory tests annually, performs over 10,000 surgical operations, and provides more than 200 dialysis sessions every month.

Dr. Odur said the hospital has registered significant improvements in infrastructure, staffing, and the overall healthcare system.

“I appeal to religious leaders, community leaders, and the public to continue supporting the hospital’s efforts to improve services,” he said.

The prayer breakfast brought together health workers, religious leaders, hospital administrators, and other stakeholders to reflect on the role of faith, service, and partnership in improving healthcare delivery.
