Members of the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU), a civic organisation chaired by Muhoozi Kainerugaba, have commended the outgoing leadership and called on the newly appointed leaders to prioritize the fight against corruption and strengthen oversight of government programs.
The remarks follow a series of leadership changes announced by Gen. Muhoozi, who also serves as Uganda’s Chief of Defence Forces.
Among the appointments, Fadil Twaha was named the new Secretary General, while Frank Gashumba lost his coordinator position for Bugand to Defence minister Kiryowa Kiwanuk.
Deputy Speaker of Parliament Thomas Tayebwa, fpormer Government Chief Whip Denis Hamson Obua and other leaders were appointed to various positions representing PLU in Parliament.
The outgoing leadership had served for three years, prompting political observers to speculate about the reasons behind the reshuffle.
Speaking during a press briefing on Tuesday morning, PLU coordinator for the Greater Kigezi region, Joventi Kyalimpa, described the changes as a positive sign of leadership renewal within the organization.
“The changes send a good message to those in leadership that public service is for a season. When one’s time is up, others should be given an opportunity to serve,” Kyalimpa said.
He praised the achievements registered during Kabanda’s tenure, including mobilizing support for President Museveni during the recently concluded elections, increasing public awareness of PLU, and strengthening the organization’s structures across the country.
“The outgoing team played a key role in popularizing PLU, expanding its reach and mobilizing support for government programs and President Museveni,” he noted.
Kyalimpa urged the incoming leadership to focus on monitoring government programs, particularly at the local government level, where he said misuse of public resources remains a major concern.
“The new leaders should pay close attention to monitoring government programs, especially in local governments where taxpayer funds are often mismanaged,” he said.
He also called upon PLU members from across the country to attend the swearing-in ceremony for the new leadership, scheduled to take place tomorrow at the organization’s headquarters in Naguru.
“We encourage all PLU members from different parts of the country to attend the swearing-in ceremony of their leaders at Naguru,” Kyalimpa added
