The Electoral Commission has released an adjusted programme for the Kikuube District LCV Chairperson by-election following the rescheduling of polling day from June 10 to June 18, 2026.
In a statement issued on June 4, 2026, Electoral Commission Chairperson Justice Simon Mugenyi Byabakama informed political parties, candidates, voters and other stakeholders that all related electoral activities had been revised to align with the new polling date.
The by-election was called following the death of Kikuube District chairperson-elect Peter Banura Araali, who died in a road accident on April 4, leaving the position vacant before assuming office.
Under the revised programme, campaign activities that had originally been scheduled to conclude on June 8 will now run until June 16, ending 24 hours before polling day as required by electoral regulations.
Justice Byabakama said the changes were necessary following the adjustment of the polling schedule and urged all stakeholders to familiarise themselves with the revised timetable.
“The Commission urges all stakeholders and members of the public to take note of the revised dates and to participate in the electoral process in accordance with the updated schedule,” the statement said.
According to the Electoral Commission, campaign activities will continue from May 28 through June 16, while the issuance of voter location slips by Parish Supervisors will run from June 1 to June 16.
Training of polling officials, Biometric Voter Verification Kit (BVVK) operators, tally clerks, political party agents and candidates’ agents, as well as the issuance of appointment letters, will take place on June 14 and 15.
Polling and tallying of results are scheduled for June 18, 2026.
The Commission also called upon all participants in the electoral process to observe public health guidelines and Standard Operating Procedures issued by the Government to prevent the spread of Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) and protect communities during the electoral exercise.
The Kikuube District LCV Chairperson by-election is expected to attract significant attention as voters elect a new district leader following the untimely death of Araali.
