Bishop Kagodo described Kyakulaga as a strong leader supported by a dedicated family and noted that he retires as a victor.

He commended him for safeguarding the standards and reputation of Bishop Senior School Mukono, an institution that has produced many prominent individuals, including three Bishops.

Bishop Kagodo also applauded the teaching and non-teaching staff, together with the school Board, for their commitment and tireless efforts towards the institution’s continued success.

He encouraged Kyakulaga to recognize that retirement marks not an end, but the beginning of new opportunities for service within the Church and educational ministry.

“God’s eye has been upon you throughout your journey,” he said, urging the outgoing Headteacher to embrace the new avenues of service ahead of him.

In a significant announcement during the ceremony, Bishop Kagodo named John Ssenkuuma Musoke, formerly the Headteacher of St. Peter’s Kibuzi Secondary School in Kayunga, as the new Headteacher of Bishop Senior School Mukono.

Bishop Kagodo encouraged Musoke to remain prayerful and draw closer to God as he assumes leadership, emphasizing the importance of working closely with the school Board to sustain and advance the institution’s progress.

Basing his sermon on the theme, “Know Your Journey,” from Exodus 18:1–16, Bishop Kagodo encouraged Kyakulaga to recognize that, like Jethro, he has a testimony-filled journey to share.

Also addressing the congregation was Bishop Emeritus James William Ssebaggala, Chancellor of Avance International University, who praised Kyakulaga and the school staff for their diligence and dedication, particularly in maintaining and improving academic standards.

He commended the staff for instilling discipline and strong values among students and lauded the Board and Parents-Teachers Association for preserving the school’s high standards.

“They must continue to uphold and strengthen the mission, objectives, and goals of this school,” he said.

Bishop Ssebaggala further encouraged all those who worked closely with Kyakulaga to extend the same support and cooperation to Musoke, noting that high expectations accompany his appointment.

In addition, he announced 85 scholarships for students from Bishop Senior School Mukono to pursue further studies at Avance International University.

Reflecting on his educational journey, Kyakulaga revealed that he began his teaching career at Mityana Secondary School in 1991.

On February 15, 1998, he was transferred to Bishop Senior School Mukono with a specific mission of improving science performance.

Over the years, he served in several capacities, including Director of Studies and Deputy Headteacher, before eventually being appointed Headteacher.

In his farewell remarks, Kyakulaga highlighted several achievements realized during his tenure.

Among them were the development of a highly motivated staff team, a disciplined and academically focused student body, a fourfold increase in the school’s annual revenue, and significant physical and technological infrastructural development.

He expressed gratitude to the Diocese of Mukono for entrusting him with leadership of the institution and for the moral, spiritual, and administrative support accorded to him throughout his service.

“On March 6, 2015, the leadership of this school was handed over to me amidst anxiety and fear of the unknown. I am excited that today, June 5, 2026, I have handed over the leadership of this mighty school with happiness and confidence that all is well and will remain well,” he said.

In his acceptance speech, Musoke thanked the Bishop for appointing him Headteacher of Bishop Senior School Mukono.

“I come with valuable networks and partnerships that will enable us to elevate this institution to greater heights,” he said.

Addressing members of staff, Musoke pledged a collaborative leadership approach aimed at advancing the school’s shared vision.

“Staff, you are the driving force of this institution. I pledge to work diligently alongside you so that we can achieve our shared goals. I therefore urge you to remain united as one team and to support one another,” he said.

The thanksgiving and farewell ceremony attracted a wide range of guests, including the Bishop’s wife, Ms Catherine Kitto; the Provost, The Very Rev. Canon Godfrey Ssengendo; the Diocesan Secretary, Rev. John Musoke; Seeta Archdeacon, Rev. Canon Edward Balamaze Kironde; clergy; lay readers; headteachers from other schools; Board members; parents; and students.
