Franco Kajura Bwakya has been sworn in as the new Mayor of Katabi Town Council in Wakiso District, vowing to prioritise service delivery, infrastructure development, accountability and socio-economic transformation.
During the swearing-in ceremony, Kajura expressed gratitude to residents for entrusting him with leadership and promised a new phase of development focused on improving livelihoods.
“I am deeply honored and humbled by the trust the people of Katabi have placed in me,” he said. “Today marks the beginning of a new chapter. We shall prioritize service delivery, promote accountability, foster unity, and drive real transformation in our town council.”
The mayor said his administration will place strong emphasis on upgrading road infrastructure to improve connectivity, trade and local economic activity.
“We are committed to constructing and upgrading key roads across Katabi Town Council. Better roads will boost trade, ease transportation, and open up new opportunities for our people,” he said.
Kajura also made a specific pledge to support fishing communities operating along Lake Victoria, noting that the sector plays a central role in the local economy.
“I want to assure our fishermen and women that we shall work very hard to support you,” he said, adding that the administration will improve landing site facilities, access roads and explore value addition for fish products.
He further committed to addressing challenges related to water access, healthcare and youth empowerment across the town council.
“My administration will promote unity among all stakeholders. Together, we shall build a better Katabi — a town council that works for everyone,” he said.
Residents have welcomed the new leadership with optimism, particularly fishing communities and small business operators who are hopeful for improved infrastructure and expanded economic opportunities in the coming term.
