Prof. Kilian Songwe and A Global Healthcare Public Foundation (AGHPF) Congratulate H.E. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni on His Swearing-In for Seventh Presidential Term

Prof. Kilian Songwe, together with A Global Healthcare Public Foundation (AGHPF), extends sincere congratulations to His Excellency Yoweri Kaguta Museveni upon his swearing-in for a seventh five-year term as President of the Republic of Uganda.

The occasion marks a notable milestone in Uganda’s political and development trajectory. The swearing-in ceremony was a well-coordinated national event, delivered with precision and colour, and executed within schedule. It reflected the institutional stability, national pride, and sense of continuity associated with Uganda’s governance framework.

Over the years, Uganda’s health sector has registered significant transformation under the leadership of President Museveni. Consistent public investment in health infrastructure, workforce development, service delivery systems, and preventive health interventions has contributed to measurable improvements in key national health indicators and overall system performance.

Among the most notable gains is the increase in facility-based deliveries, which rose from 44% in 2001 to 86% in the 2022/2023 period. This development reflects strengthened maternal and newborn health services, as well as improved access to skilled care at the point of delivery. For health system stakeholders, these gains extend beyond statistical progress; they represent reduced preventable mortality, improved survival outcomes, and strengthened confidence in formal health services at community level.

These investments have also contributed to broader system-wide improvements, including expanded geographical access to healthcare, enhanced quality of clinical services, and increased coverage of essential health interventions across both rural and urban populations.

As Uganda enters a new five-year leadership cycle, there is growing emphasis on consolidating these achievements while advancing reforms aimed at a more resilient, equitable, and innovation-driven health system. Strengthening sustainability, improving efficiency, and deepening access remain central priorities in this next phase.

Prof. Kilian Songwe and A Global Healthcare Public Foundation (AGHPF) commend His Excellency Yoweri Kaguta Museveni on his renewed mandate. The leadership is recognised for its emphasis on innovation in addressing complex health challenges, its commitment to sustained investment in the health sector, and its long-term strategic focus on improving the well-being of Ugandans.
