Mayiga Reflects on 13 Years of Transformation in Buganda
Katikkiro Charles Peter Mayiga has highlighted key milestones recorded during his 13 years in office, including financial growth, development initiatives, and social programmes that he says have strengthened Buganda Kingdom’s institutional capacity and community impact.

Katikkiro Charles Peter Mayiga has outlined key achievements registered during his 13 years in office since assuming the position of Katikkiro (Premier) of Buganda Kingdom.

May 12, 2026, will mark thirteen years since Charles Peter Mayiga was appointed Katikkiro of Buganda.

Speaking to the press, Mayiga said the kingdom has experienced significant financial growth, with its budget now estimated at 350 billion shillings, a milestone he described as unprecedented in the kingdom’s modern history.

“This has been achieved through the different kingdom organisations, how they are structured and how they execute their duties,” he said.

He highlighted several initiatives, including Emwanyi Terimba, a programme encouraging coffee growing across the kingdom to improve household incomes and promote sustainability.

Mayiga, who previously introduced the Etafaali initiative aimed at mobilising contributions for kingdom development projects, said he has now launched a new campaign, Situla Omutindo, which encourages people to improve the quality of their work.

“When there is quality in what you do, its value becomes higher,” he said.

He also pointed to achievements in the health sector, including health camps, construction of health facilities, and public campaigns aimed at addressing various health challenges.
