“It is alleged that the deceased, after breaking off for their holidays, were sent by their parents to check on their grandparents where they have been staying. While sleeping in their room, the house was half buried by landslides, causing their death due to suffocation,” Maate said.

According to police, the landslide followed heavy rainfall in the hilly district, which is prone to such disasters, especially in areas with unstable soils.

Residents and local leaders have previously raised concerns about the increasing risk of landslides in the region, particularly during the rainy seasons.

Authorities have since urged communities living in high-risk areas to remain vigilant and, where possible, relocate to safer ground to prevent further loss of life.
