Roads, drainage eat big as new KCCA boss unveils plan for 2019

The newly appointed KCCA acting Executive Director Eng.Andrew Kitaka has released the authority’s plan for the year 2019 with infrastructure development eating big.

Addressing journalists at City Hall on Thursday, Kitaka said he will focus more on infrastructure development including roads and drainage system works.

“In the next three to six months, we have set an ambitious yet achievable plan across our areas of operation ranging from road, drainage works, street lighting, waste management, revenue administration to economic empowerment of the vulnerable groups through skilling and job creation, among others,”Kitaka told journalists during his appointment last year by the Kampala Minister to replace Jenifer Musisis who resigned.

He said that in the 2019 plan which will be a continuation of the blue print left behind by his processor, they would priotise rehabilitation of city infrastructure.

According to Kitaka, roads including Kabuusu- Bunamwaya- Lweza in Lubaga division, John Babiza(central division),Lukuli(Makindye division), Kulambiro and the Ntinda- Nakawa roads in Nakawa division will be expanded or upgraded to tarmac.

He noted that other roads, junctions, traffic lights and drainage systems will also have repair works done on them and these he said include Bandali rise junction, Mulago junction, Masaka road (drainage system), Nateete junction traffic lights and Salaama road(rehabilitation) among others.

Kitaka said they will focus on construction and paving of already constructed walkways in various parts of the city centre.

According to the plan, 400 kilometres of city roads will be covered.

Revenue collections

Kitaka told journalists that with their revenue collection of shs 126.9 billion in the financial year 2018/19 still at a shortfall, they would be expanding avenues to get finances including city property and outdoor advertising.

“I would like to assure all the people of Kampala that the transformation of the city is on course and we intend to achieve our set objectives. I call upon all of you to support KCCA in this effort to transform the city,” he noted.

He promised to work closely with the political leaders of the city to ensure the required development is achieved.
