Kabale University Appoints Prof. Helen Byamugisha as Deputy Vice Chancellor

Kabale University Chancellor Mathew Rukikaire has appointed Associate Professor Helen Musanabera Byamugisha as the new Deputy Vice Chancellor for Finance and Administration.

The appointment was confirmed in a press release issued on Tuesday, 15 April 2026, by the University Vice Chancellor, Prof. Joy Constance Kwesiga.

Prof. Byamugisha is an accomplished academic and information science expert with extensive experience in higher education leadership and administration. She has spent several years working in academic libraries and university governance, with a strong focus on strategic planning, institutional development, and resource management.

She is best known for her service as University Librarian at Makerere University from 2015 to 2023, a role in which she played a key part in strengthening knowledge systems and improving access to academic resources.

Her academic background includes a PhD and a Master of Science in Information Science, alongside postgraduate diplomas in Librarianship and Monitoring and Evaluation. She also holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Botany and Zoology.

Throughout her career, Prof. Byamugisha has held several senior positions at Makerere University, including Acting University Librarian, Deputy University Librarian, Head of Books Acquisition, and Assistant University Bookshop Manager. She also contributed to university governance through service on the University Senate and other committees.

Beyond Makerere, she previously served as Vice Chairperson of the University Council at Kabale University between 2010 and 2015, giving her prior experience within the institution’s governance structures.

According to Prof. Kwesiga, the university is confident that Prof. Byamugisha’s experience will strengthen management and institutional performance.
