The Uganda Police Force (UPF) has issued strict road safety guidelines ahead of the Easter holiday, urging motorists to drive responsibly and prevent accidents during the busy travel period.
SP Michael Kananura, spokesperson for the Directorate of Traffic and Road Safety, highlighted key measures to reduce road casualties.
“Do not drink and drive, avoid speeding, always wear seatbelts and helmets, and minimize distractions, especially using mobile phones while driving,” he said.
Kananura also emphasized the importance of obeying traffic signs and signals and exercising extra caution near schools, where children may be present.
“Let’s work together to ensure that Easter is a time of joy not tragedy,” Kananura added, calling on all road users to prioritize safety and protect lives.
The UPF noted that the Easter period typically sees increased movement on major highways, heightening the risk of road accidents.
Observing these guidelines, the police said, is essential to prevent fatalities and injuries.
The force wished all Ugandans a peaceful and crash-free Easter, urging citizens to celebrate responsibly and cooperate with traffic authorities.
