Corporate leaders have reaffirmed their commitment to supporting the Uganda People's Defence Forces (UPDF), recognising its role in maintaining national stability and fostering development.
The pledge was made during a Corporate Dinner hosted by the UPDF following the successful commemoration of the 45th Tarehe Sita celebrations in the Kigezi Sub-region.
Speaking on behalf of the CEOs of various corporate entities, Silver Mugisha emphasised that supporting the UPDF is not optional but a shared responsibility for institutions that benefit from the country’s peace and stability.
He noted that every organisation operates within a system sustained by communities, employees, and customers, with the UPDF safeguarding the environment that enables businesses to thrive.
Dr Mugisha also highlighted that Uganda’s stability and progress are closely tied to the historical significance of Tarehe Sita, describing it as a defining moment in the country’s journey.
The dinner, held at Silver Springs Hotel, provided an opportunity for UPDF leadership to acknowledge the contributions of corporate partners in organising the anniversary activities.
Representing the Chief of Defence Forces and Senior Presidential Advisor on Special Operations, Muhoozi Kainerugaba, Joint Staff Policy and Strategy Officer Don Nabaasa commended the partners for their support and patriotic spirit.
He said the Ministry of Defence and Veteran Affairs, alongside the UPDF leadership, recognised the crucial role of ministries, agencies, and the private sector in ensuring the celebrations’ success.
Maj Gen Nabaasa added that corporate support enabled the UPDF to implement a range of civil-military cooperation activities culminating in the main celebrations at National Teachers’ College Kabale.
Joint Staff Political Commissariat Henry Masiko said corporate participation strengthened civilian-military relations and noted that public support remains a key pillar of UPDF operations.
Quoting President Museveni, Masiko described the wananchi as the “ultimate strategic force” behind the UPDF.
Assistant Commissioner General of Prisons Robert Kananura said the Uganda Prisons Service was honoured to participate in community initiatives during the celebrations.
The event brought together UPDF generals, senior officers, corporate executives, and local leaders from the Kigezi Sub-region.
