Centenary Bank has donated food and essential items to Muslim communities in Moyo and Obongi districts to support vulnerable families during the ongoing holy month of Ramadan.
The donations were handed over to Muslim leaders shortly after Juma prayers at Hijira Turua Mosque in Lefori Sub-county, Moyo District. Items included bags of sugar, rice, flour, laundry soap, and salt.
Ramadan is a sacred month in which Muslims fast from dawn to sunset, increase prayers, avoid bad behavior, and emphasize charity and care for the needy.
Speaking at the handover ceremony, Lejoaba Mohamad commended the bank for supporting the Muslim community during this period.
“Helping the poor during this month keeps them going and strengthens unity. Religion plays a pivotal role in building responsible and caring communities,” he said.
The Adjumani Supreme Khadi also praised the bank’s corporate social responsibility efforts, noting that the community trusts the bank’s services.
“Centenary Bank has, on several occasions, supported social initiatives, and communities rely on its commitment to development and social responsibility,” he said.
Centenary Bank’s Adjumani District Branch Manager, Denise Mwa Wokorach, encouraged more mosques and Muslim groups to open accounts to promote financial inclusion. She emphasized the bank’s commitment to accessible services for all.
Abdul Kyanika Nsibambi, Manager for Housing and Renewable Energy Business at Centenary Bank, explained that the donations are part of the bank’s national CSR program, which dedicates two percent of profits to community initiatives.
He added that the bank also provides financial products for religious institutions, including accounts for Zakat contributions.
Muslim leaders pledged to ensure that the donations reach the most vulnerable families, including the sick and elderly, identified by Khadis in their respective mosques.
The initiative reflects Centenary Bank’s ongoing commitment to community welfare, financial inclusion, and corporate social responsibility across Uganda, while also reinforcing charity as a central pillar of Ramadan.
