The Assistant Resident District Commissioner (RDC) for Mityana District, Chrizestom Waswa Buyondo, commended the initiative during a visit to the farm owned by Yassin Byaruhanga in Kyamusisi LC I, Kyamusisi Parish.

Buyondo described the farm as a practical demonstration of how commercial agriculture can contribute to poverty reduction and job creation at the grassroots level.

“This farm is a clear demonstration that agriculture can be a powerful tool for fighting poverty and unemployment. When one farmer is able to employ more than 100 people, the benefits extend beyond the farm to the entire community,” Buyondo said.

He encouraged other farmers in Mityana and across the country to adopt modern and commercial farming practices to increase productivity and expand employment opportunities, particularly for young people.

Buyondo also noted that government agricultural support programmes can have greater impact when farmers actively invest in scaling up production and embracing sustainable agribusiness models.

Farm owner Yassin Byaruhanga said his motivation has been to improve livelihoods in the area while contributing to food production and local economic growth.

“Agriculture is not only about producing food; it is also about improving lives. We are proud that this farm has created jobs for many people and continues to support families in this area,” he said.

Workers at the farm said the enterprise has provided them with stable income sources, helping to reduce unemployment and improve living standards in the community.

Local leaders say the success of the farm reflects the broader potential of agriculture to drive rural development, create employment, and support national efforts toward household income improvement and wealth creation.
