Hundreds of residents in Agama Ward, Soroti City West Constituency, on Saturday braved a heavy downpour to attend a campaign rally addressed by NRM Vice Chairperson for Eastern Uganda and parliamentary aspirant David Calvin Echodu.
The rally, held in an open field soaked by persistent rain, attracted supporters from Agama and neighboring wards. Many stood for hours despite the harsh weather, chanting the “New Energy” slogan as they listened to Echodu outline his development agenda for Soroti City West.
Addressing the gathering, Echodu commended residents for their resilience and commitment, describing the turnout as a clear demonstration of trust and hope for change.
He said Soroti City West needs action-oriented leadership focused on practical solutions to the challenges facing ordinary people.
Echodu highlighted youth unemployment, poor road infrastructure, limited access to quality healthcare, and household poverty as some of the key issues he intends to prioritize if elected to Parliament.
He pledged to work closely with government programmes to ensure that both urban and peri-urban communities benefit from wealth creation initiatives.
“Leadership is about service, not empty promises. I am offering leadership that listens, acts, and delivers results for the people of Soroti City West,” Echodu told the cheering crowd.
Several supporters interviewed welcomed his message, saying his consistent presence on the ground and focus on development had convinced them to support his candidature.
Some residents said braving the rain was a clear demonstration of their determination to back a leader they believe understands their daily struggles.
Local party mobilizers described the rally as one of the most successful in recent weeks despite the weather disruption, noting that similar engagements are planned across other wards in the constituency.
As the rally concluded, supporters escorted Echodu through muddy paths, singing and dancing in the rain—a scene that underscored the enthusiasm surrounding his campaign in Soroti City West.
