Businessman , Hamis Kiggundu also known as Ham has released photos indicating progress of the ongoing redevelopment works for Nakivubo Channel.
According to the photos, the works on covering the channel are progressing well .
Recently, additional culverts were opened to divert large volumes of water into the Nakivubo Channel.
The businessman recently said he welcomes the technical guidance by engineers on what needs to be done best to avert a similar problem in future.
“We shall listen to their technical guidance. We are ready to work with KCCA to ensure water which always collects on the surface whenever it rains enters the channel,” Ham said.
He noted that whereas Nakivubo Channel’s width was six metres, his team has widened it to 12 metres, adding that his engineers projected that the channel will draw water for between 50 and 70 years.
The businessman said whereas the channel was previously open, it posed a danger to members of the public while many, disposed rubbish into it, leading to clogging.
“CAF officials inspected Nakivubo Stadium and said whereas the standard is good, it can’t be international when water and sewerage are flowing in an open space near the stadium and asked that it is covered,” he said.
President Museveni early this year said Ham had been allowed to redevelop the channel by covering it and that he would be able to recoup his investment by constructing properties on top of the channel where he will be getting rent.
“His proposal is imaginative and simple. Allow him to cover the channel after cleaning it and strengthening it at his own cost. What a really godly proposal! How will he recover his money? Allow him build properties above it that will bring back his money,” Museveni said.
