The Chief of Defence Forces of the Uganda People’s Defence Force and Senior Presidential Advisor on Special Operations, Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, has donated Shs300 million to support major infrastructure improvements at Bombo Barracks Nursery and Primary School.
The contribution will fund the construction of a new classroom block, renovation works on existing school buildings, scholastic materials, and other infrastructure upgrades.
It marks the first fulfilment of Gen. Kainerugaba’s commitment, made upon assuming office, to channel all official allowances attached to his position toward urgent public interventions.
The cheque was handed over to the school administration by the CDF’s Military Assistant, Col Christopher Muwumba, during a ceremony attended by teachers, parents, learners and UPDF officials.
Brig Gen Richard Karemire, the Joint Staff Formal Education, Sports and Culture, praised the donation as a transformative investment for a school that serves a predominantly military community.
“This money could have gone elsewhere, but the CDF committed it towards the education of our children. This is a timely intervention that will meaningfully improve the learning environment for soldiers’ children,” he said.
Karemire noted that more than 800 pupils enrolled at Bombo Barracks Primary School are children of serving soldiers. He urged the UPDF engineering teams to ensure timely and high-quality completion of the new construction and renovation works.
He also pointed to other education projects currently supported by the CDF, including the construction of Ruhengyere Army Primary School and the rehabilitation of Lira Army Primary School.
Speaking during the handover, Col Muwumba said the Bombo initiative is the beginning of a broader programme championed by Gen. Kainerugaba to support priority areas aligned with government programmes and the UPDF’s tradition of service.
“This represents a shared investment in the future—an investment in the young minds of our nation. It extends beyond the military fraternity to the wider community we serve,” he said.
Muwumba added that strengthening education in barracks communities boosts morale, uplifts families and enhances the readiness and effectiveness of soldiers in service of the nation.
He called on parents, teachers and community members to support and protect the new and renovated facilities to ensure their sustainability.
The school leadership expressed gratitude for the intervention, with learners and parents welcoming the improvements as construction on the new classroom block begins.
